American Muslim Icon is a series of annual competitions that usually takes place in Chicago. The competition includes Athan, Art, Math, Quran, Nasheed, and Speech. Students can participate in any or all of the competitions. This year was the third annual competition. Since it took place virtually this year, two of our PVS students were able to participate. A total of 13 states participated in this year’s competition with over 400 competitors. The purpose of this competition is to bring out the hidden talents in our children and youth and give them the chance to share their passion for Islam and the love of the Quran. This competition was open to boys & girls between the ages of 5 and 18 years. Competitors were given guidelines and requirements for each category and a point score-based rubric. Winners were announced in January.

Our high school student, Neeymet Ahmed, participated in the category for ages 11-14 years old for Surah Al-Waqiah and she placed 2nd place nationwide. Additionally, our middle school student, Teanir Yusuf, participated in the Middle school Math category and placed 1st place nationwide. AMI also had an electronic raffle among the 400 plus participants and Teanir Yusuf was selected as one of the winners.
