Alumni Achievements

Mariam Khayata (c/o’18):

Mariam Khayata is a junior at Rhodes College and a political science and international relations major. She is a Clarence Day scholar and is active in student government on campus. She serves as the communications director for 901 Ummah and was recently named by Phi Beta Kappa, the oldest collegiate honor society, as a 2020 Key into Public Service Scholar. She is passionate about politics, having interned for CAIR, Phil Bredesen, and Congressman Steve Cohen. She has canvassed for Commissioner Tami Sawyer, and she was the moderator for our PVS Candidate Forum in 2019.



Maryam Taysir (c/o’18):



Maryam Taysir is currently pursuing a business major at Rhodes College and is a marketing intern for Autozone. She is actively involved on the Rhodes’ campus as the co-president of the Rhodes chapter of Students for Justice in Palestine (SJP) and as the event coordinator for the Muslim Students’ Association, or MSA. She also serves as the community service co-chair for 901 Ummah, a local nonprofit organization for Muslim youth.
