PVS Ramadan Donation Challenge

Ramadan Mubarak! Our PVS Immigration Reform Group recently partnered with ICNA Relief and NABIC to distribute zakat eligible food boxes which include 65 lbs worth of food items to give to the needy in Memphis. In order to raise money for the boxes, our group has come up with a challenge for the students: a competition among the classes from 3rd to 12th grades to see which class can raise the most money. Because this is the month of Ramadan, we wanted to emphasize the importance of generosity and giving back to the needy in our community. We hope that this challenge will encourage students to donate to important causes and help those who are less fortunate.

Alhamdulillah, thanks to the generous donations we have already received from the students, we were able to begin our delivery process to the needy families. On Saturday, April 24, several members of the Immigration Reform Group met at PVS to pick up the food boxes. With the help of a few coordinators from Masjid As-Salam, we were able to personally deliver the boxes to around 40 immigrant families around Memphis. The families were elated and extremely grateful when they received the food items. With your support, we can continue to deliver these boxes to more families, many of whom do not have the means to afford basic necessities that we all take for granted every single day.

Ramadan is the most blessed month of the year, and any act of charity will be accepted by Allah (SWT) and rewarded exponentially. To remind you all of the importance of donating and giving food we look to the hadith reported by Suhayb ibn Sinan: The Messenger of Allah, peace, and blessings be upon him, said, “The best of you are those who feed others and sadaqah extinguishes sin as water extinguishes fire.” Give generously in this blessed month and ask Allah to make your sadaqa protection for you. We aren’t limiting the amount you can donate--we appreciate any donation amount! Once again, during Ramadan, the reward is amplified, so make sure to donate as much as you can, and if you need any more information on this you can contact the immigration advocacy group. There is also a parent square and student square post about it. JazakAllahu Khairan!
