PVS Launches Afterschool Quran Hifdh Classes

A new afterschool Quran Hifdh program, run by IQRA Education Center (IEC), uses a targeted approach to help boys and girls ages seven and older to memorize the Quran.

Iqra Education Center is an organization that was founded in 2018 to teach Muslim children about religious values in a student-centered, Islamic environment. Boys’ classes are taught at Pleasant View School by Hafidh Osman Celikok and Ibrahim Malik ‘24, while Ms. Amani Mohammed and Ms. Samar Ahmed teach girls.

The classes for boys are held on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays after school and on Saturdays from 10 AM to 2 PM. Student Taha Iqbal talks about his experience in the class, explaining how “everything is on time and there is an organized schedule,” which helps him to set a fixed routine and be most productive in his memorization. Different methods are also used to aid students in memorizing, such as writing down the English translation to understand the meaning.

Separate classes for girls are also held on the same days. “The plan is to work at the quickest pace based on each student’s ability, in order to be as efficient as possible with Hifdh throughout the school year,” says Ms. Arifa Zafar, an IQRA Tajweed teacher. In addition to a Quran and Tajweed curriculum, IQRA instructor Ms.Samar also teaches students ages 5 to 10 Islamic studies.
