Panthers Post Semester Update: Chief Editor’s Perspective

Alhamdulilah, our Journalism Club has been up and running since the start of this school year. Usually, when we think of Journalism, we think of writing. However, The Journalism Club is an avenue for students to demonstrate their creative writing and artwork to the school audience, and InshaAllah to the greater Memphis community. Most of the time, students and parents are up-to-date with PVS's accomplishments, awards, and updates, which is an essential facet of our school. The Panther's Post highlights all of these accomplishments. There is a lot of behind-the-scenes work when it comes to organizing this club, but at the end of the day, I would say this is a much-needed club that we are excited to bring forth. The goal of this club is to allow students to demonstrate their writing and art skills while updating the audience about any essential information that constitutes PVS.

At first, I thought that we wouldn't have enough volunteers to display their writing and artwork and it would be difficult to gather the articles from each club member. After we reached out to the students, their responses were amazing and beyond my expectations. I should've known, PVS never fails to amaze us with their amazing student creativity. Our Journalism Club members are such an amazing, diligent team, which has made the entire process a lot easier.

For as long as I can remember, PVS has had some form of a newsletter. Also, for the past few years, we had the Panthers Appeal newsletter. Adding on to this, we decided to initiate a new newsletter (The Panthers Post) with many more added topics and headlines. What makes this Journalism Club unique is that it is completely student-led. Not only do our Journalism Club members have an opportunity to showcase their writing, but so do our creative students.

It’s amazing how our school has all the updates, upcoming events, volunteering opportunities, clubs, announcements, and more all in one area that makes it easier for our readers. Another main aspect is to make it engaging for our younger elementary students to read.

I am looking forward to seeing this Journalism Club flourishing and expanding in the future years to come. I would love to see this Journalism club in the next five years continuing on a larger scale and hopefully providing printed copies. My goal for this newsletter is for our students and parents to be up to date with current school information, competitions, achievements, clubs, opportunities, and most importantly, to demonstrate our amazing student work. This newsletter makes everything accessible in one location, which I find very convenient. In addition to that, this newsletter can be a means of pride for our school as students. This newsletter displays the high potential of our school, which serves as a reminder for us every month. Of course, this wouldn’t be possible without our teacher advisor, our copy editors, layout editor, and our diligent group of staff writers.

Jazakallah Khair!
