Senior Spotlight: Nagham Makhzoum

Reem Mohammed

Tell me about yourself. When did you come to PVS? My name is Nagham Makhzoum. I am from Syria, and I have been in PVS since I was in elementary school. I feel like it is my second home. I have learned a lot of things during these years and it feels bittersweet leaving this year but Alhamdulillah for everything.

What are your hobbies and interests? Who is your biggest hero/role model and why?

I enjoy doing multiple things such as swimming, playing volleyball, exercising, and cooking where I film small videos and post them online. I enjoy cooking for the people I love and seeing their reaction and what each person has to say about what I made gives me a sense of joy.

My biggest role model has to be my parents. May Allah protect them and grant them al firdous al alah ameen . They had sacrificed so much for me and my siblings and without them I don't know what to do.

If you could go back and change one thing, what would it be?

I feel like everything in life happens for a reason from Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala but if I could go back and change one thing I would have focused more on memorizing the Quran and learning as much as possible about my deen.

What are your plans for college/after graduation?

I am still looking at what I want to do in college. I know I want to go into the medical field and be able to help others, especially coming from a country that is going through a war. One thing that inspired me to do that is this ayah

What advice do you have for the underclassmen?

One advice I would give the underclassmen is to focus on your studies and deen and to have work life balance  because you might not realize it and you will say I will focus on my studies when I am older but time runs by and you might not realize it. Allah gave us everything and we should at least dedicate 2 hours everyday just for Allah azza wa jel.

What is the worst and best thing about being a senior?

The best thing about being a senior is having that feeling of accomplishment that you are so close to the finish line and you are about to start a new chapter in your life. The worst thing about being a senior is definitely the deadlines, and the pressure of writing all the supplements, the common app essay, the college applications, and applying to all the scholarships but once you are done it will all be worth it.
